Melika Madani

B.S.

2019-2024

Role

Lab Manager & Research Assistant

Research

Melika was an integral member of the Paul lab and served as lab manager while also pursuing her own research project on stress and sleep behavior in mice. As lab manager, Melika was responsible for managing experiment schedules, lab budget, lab safety, and training new lab members.

Ph.D. Student at UCLA

Noah Liberty

B.S.

2021-2023

Role

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Research

As an undergraduate research assistant, Noah dedicated his time to mastering Western Blotting and focused on analyzing expression of key circadian regulators in BMAL-1 over expressed mice.

Master's Student in Integrative Biology and Physiology at UCLA

Mary Dover

B.S.

2021-2023

Role

Staff Research Associate

Research

Mary was an undergraduate in the Paul Lab studying macrophages in patients with Alzheimer's Disease. She then worked as a Staff Research Associate and studied the oscillations of circadian genes in myoblasts and macrophages. She was also responsible for performing EEG/EMG surgeries for the lab.

M.D. Student at Wake Forest University School of Medicine

Giselle Melendez

B.S.

2019-2023

Role

Laboratory Assistant

Research

As an undergraduate in Paul Lab, Giselle maintained all mouse breeding colonies and was responsible for animal welfare. As a Laboratory Assistant, Giselle's primary research interest was studying sleep behavior in different sex phenotypes and routinely performed gonadectomies.

Master's Student in Public Health at University of Southern California

India Nichols

Ph.D.

2016-2023

Role

Postdoctoral Researcher

Research

India was an integral member of the Paul Lab as she managed breeding colonies, surgical procedures, and administrative work. During her post-doctoral career in the lab, her primary focus was studying sex differences in sleep behavior on sleep deprived mice.

Assistant Professor at Spelman College

Scott Vincent

Ph.D.

2017-2022

Role

Graduate Researcher

Research

During his time in the lab, Scott spearheaded a study investigating the role of hydrogen-rich water in sleep and slow-wave oscillations. This project culminated in his dissertation, which was completed in 2022.

Director of Operations at Glyphic Biotechnologies

Alexis Tucker

M.S.

2019-2022

Role

Graduate Student

Research

Alexis's graduate thesis focused on the effect of BMAL-1 over-expression and sleep deprivation on the expression of circadian genes including BDNF and PGC1a.

Master's Graduate in Integrative Biology and Physiology from UCLA

Dante Dikeman

B.S.

2020-2022

Role

Laboratory Technician

Research

As the resident tech at Paul Lab, Dante was responsible for performing EEG/EMG head-mount surgeries on mice for analysis of their sleep behavior.

Master's Student at University of Southern California

Damion Trotter

M.S.

2020-2022

Role

Graduate Student

Research

Throughout his graduate program at UCLA, Damion studied differences in sleep behavior in inbred BxD mice and wild types.

Ph.D. Student at UCLA

Kyle Golden

B.S.

2019-2022

Role

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Research

As an undergraduate in Paul Lab, Kyle aided with the completion of several projects including Scott's investigation on hydrogen-rich water and sleep behavior.

M.D. Student at Tulane University

Sam Wimmer

B.S.

2020-2022

Role

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Research

As an undergraduate in Paul Lab, Sam aided with the completion of several projects including Scott's investigation on hydrogen-rich water and sleep behavior, and Alexis's completion of Western Blotting.

Research Assistant at LA Children's Hospital

Cameron Jackson

B.S.

2019-2021

Role

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Research

As an undergraduate in Paul Lab, Cameron assisted Scott with the HRW project and aided the lab in animal maintenance and welfare.

Ph.D. Student at California Institute of Technology

Emily Chiem

M.S.

2017-2021

Role

Graduate Student

Research

As an undergraduate and master's student in Paul Lab, Emily spearheaded a study investigating the role of time-restricted-feeding on sleep behavior and circadian gene expression.
